Pucker Up !!!

As the weather is slightly cooler in the morning for the past few days, my lips are definitely feeling the dryness.  People can usually tell if colder weather is coming by the temperature, but I can tell by looking at my lips.  The edges and corners tend to become cracked and peel.  It is not a good scene at all!!

I do some very simple things to keep them soft and hydrated.  I like to exfoliate them with a simple lip scrub I make at home now.  I see all these beauty gurus raving about sugar scrubs that are so expensive.  I decided to make one of my own.  I use sugar, olive oil, and my finger. 🙂  I like to dip my finger in some olive oil, then dip my finger again in some sugar and apply to my lips.  Obviously I will not use that sugar or olive oil on/in anything else besides this.  I don’t like to make it in advance because it tends to get gooey and I just like making it fresh whenever I need it.  I like to do this once a week.

If I am not using this, I simply brush my lips after I brush my teeth.  I don’t use the same brush, but I have a travelling smaller brush that is perfect for this.  I gently rub the toothbrush in small, circular motions.  This removes all the dead skin and you are left with amazingly soft, smooth, baby-skin lips.

After I am done removing all the flaky, dry skin off my lips, I like to use a good lip balm.  I am currently using Aquaphor Healing Ointment.  It is such a versatile product.  I use it on any other dry areas on my face and body.  It instantly soothes and hydrates that area.  I also love to use EOS Lip Balm Sweet Mint Sphere .  The mint one is my favorite since I love the cooling sensation.  Before I sleep, I like to use coconut oil.  I take a drop or so and moisturize my lips with this.  I like to rub this in so that it can absorb all the hydrating-goodness.

This is a simple routine that I like to do very often.  The exfoliation is only needed once a week. I apply the Aquaphor Healing Ointment or the EOS Balm every morning and throughout the day whenever I feel my lips are dry again.  The oil I tend to use at night since it is a heavier form of hydration.

With these steps, your lips will be velvety soft and ready for any season ahead. 🙂
